HOW TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR COMPETITION IN ONE DAY

As a small business owner, you are always watching your competition to see what you could be doing better.

The question is how are you watching – are you visiting their business? Are you looking for their advertisements? What is the best way to find out how well your competitors are doing? Use these three techniques to effectively creep on your competition online:

SEE THEIR TRAFFIC, RANKING, AND KEYWORDS

Checking your competitors traffic is key to seeing how well they are performing online. There are free online tools you can use where you type in your competitor’s website URL and compare where they rank with specific keywords, organic and paid search, and display advertising. An example of a free online tool to use is www.semrush.com where you can compare domains, keyword rankings, and display advertising.

SEARCH FOR THEIR COMPANY NAME

What’s the easiest and quickest way to find a business online? You search for them! Enter your competitor’s name in Google and see what comes up. Find out what directories they are on. Read a few press releases about them. See what other websites are saying about them. Researching your competitors based off search results can give you immediate answers to your lingering questions.

CHECK THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

Do you see your competitors on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+ ? If you do, are they posting often? Are they interacting with their customers? How is it going for them? If it looks like they’re actively using social media to engage with their audience, you should be doing that too. If it looks like they’ve left their social media platforms in the dust (or they don’t have any at all), this is the perfect opportunity to get ahead of your competitors and reach your target audience before they do.
